Our Milestones
2016-2017
Our journey started with the dream of bringing art to everyone. "Mirage," our first exhibition, was a huge success thanks to the late Shri Wasim Kapoor. This event marked our first step, making our mark in the art world.
2017-2018
In 2017, our studio became a bustling Art Hub, welcoming 200+ students each week, eager to explore and create. Our building mural, which beautifully captures Kolkata's rich cultural-heritage, became a city landmark, drawing admiration from passersby and cementing our place in the community's heart.
2018-2020
From 2018 to 2020, our City of Joy was lit up like never before with a street art festival that transformed the historic lane of Hindustan Park into a vibrant celebration of art, music, poetry, and drama, through three memorable editions of KALFest.
2020-2021
During the challenging times of COVID, we expanded our horizons by offering online classes, achieving a worldwide reach. We also embraced the power of social media, hosting Instagram live sessions that featured collaborations with new artists from around the globe, bringing diverse artistic expressions right into your homes.
2021-2023
Embarking on a new chapter, we've unveiled a fresh new brand identity and opened the doors to our stunning, modern “Mosaic studio”. Alongside, we've launched a revolutionary Art Menu concept, enabling people to explore their creativity anytime, any day.
Our Story

Art Rickshaw was founded in 2016 with a firm belief that art should be accessible and inclusive. Conceived as a sanctuary where creativity and community converge, our mission has been unyielding – to weave art into the everyday fabric of life, enabling individuals from all walks of life to engage, create, and celebrate art. Our initiative is centered on a diversified and dynamic range of offerings. Our art courses, workshops, and exhibitions are designed not just to educate, but to foster a culture of creativity.
We offer lots of different things to do, like art classes, workshops, and exhibitions. But it's not just about teaching – it's about creating a fun and welcoming atmosphere where people can interact with each other and explore their artistic side.
Our Philosophy
Our philosophy at Art Rickshaw is simple: art should be for everyone, no exceptions. We believe that art isn't just for the elite or the experienced – it's for every single person, regardless of their background or skills.
Our belief is rooted in the idea that art has the power to bring people together and enrich their lives in countless ways. It's not just about creating beautiful things (although that's definitely part of it!), but it's also about fostering a sense of community, self-expression, and personal growth.
We see art as a universal language that transcends barriers and connects us all on a deeper level. One of our primary focuses is on art's therapeutic and healing significance, as well as its capacity to raise social awareness. So come join us on this journey – let's make art a part of everyday life, together.
Our Philosophy
Public Art Projects
The Birth of KALfest:
Art Rickshaw's dedication to making art available to all and honoring our cultural roots led to the birth of a street art festival. Known as KALfest, this event was conceived to break free from the confines of elite galleries and spread its creative wings across public spaces. KALfest aimed to blend various art styles, casting a vibrant glow on city streets, involving local communities, and seamlessly integrating art into the very essence of urban life. Additionally, the festival provided opportunities for new, unknown artists to showcase their talents, fostering inclusivity and diversity within the artistic community.
Unicorn Street Art Festival (KALfest 2018):
At the Unicorn Street Art Festival hosted by Art Rickshaw, Hindusthan Park was transformed into a realm of imagination and magic. Artists from the city showcased their talents through unicorn-themed artwork and installations, while attendees of all ages joined in marathon painting sessions, explored unicorn-themed merchandise, and indulged in whimsical food stalls. The day was enriched with live art demonstrations, engaging talks, and vibrant music performances, creating a festival atmosphere filled with enchantment. It was a magical day for all who attended. Meaningful art installations created by the Art Rickshaw team and collaborators not only enhanced the visual landscape but also raised awareness that art can inspire change and challenge orthodox beliefs.
KALfest 2019:
Following the enchanting inaugural festival, the second edition of KALfest celebrated the diverse cultural heritage of Kolkata, with over 50 artists participating from across the nation. This edition was a vibrant showcase of the Memphis Art Movement's dynamic colors and patterns, interwoven with traditional Bengali art forms like Patachitra, covering a 400-foot stretch of Hindustan Park road. The festival featured interactive thought provoking installations, such as a captivating 20-meter gown display and "Love Letter to the World," alongside stalls, performances, and special recognitions for luminaries Usha Uthup and Rakhi Sarkar, making it a truly immersive experience. A commitment to community engagement was demonstrated through free art workshops, enriching the cultural tapestry of our city.
KALfest 2020:
The "Our Story" edition of KALfest, occurring just before the global pandemic, saw an unprecedented gathering of over 100,000 visitors, drawn together to explore a tapestry of narratives—from communal tales to individual journeys. This edition was a reflection on the richness of human experience, celebrated through a kaleidoscope of art, performances, and interactive exhibits. It was a festival that underscored the unifying power of storytelling through creative expression, making it a memorable prelude to a time of global reflection and connection during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Calcutta Mural:
The mural adorning the facade of Art Rickshaw is a captivating hand-painted masterpiece by a distinguished visiting faculty member, renowned for their expertise in capturing the essence of a place. This vibrant artwork serves as a panoramic homage to Kolkata, intricately depicting the city's most iconic landmarks with breathtaking detail and beauty. From the majestic Howrah Bridge to the serene ghats of the Ganges, the historical Victoria Memorial, and the bustling streets of New Market, each element is woven into a cohesive tapestry that celebrates the rich tapestry of Kolkata's heritage and urban landscape. This mural not only enhances the visual appeal of Hindustan Park but also stands as a proud symbol of the city's culture and history, inspiring residents and visitors alike to engage deeply with their surroundings.
Art Installations:
In collaboration with famed artist late Wassim Kapoor, for AKLF 2017, Art Rickshaw crafted an striking eye-catching installation at the festival's entrance. Art Rickshaw also designed communication banners and led a children's art workshop, during the festival. Additionally, for a separate event, we conceived "Untag Me” an innovative installation challenging societal stereotypes. For this installation participants used teabags bearing prejudicial labels (symbolizing Kolkata's economic roots) to ceremoniously sever ties with prejudices, thus leading them to reflect on and consider rejecting the constraints of stereotypes.
